BOOKSCAPES: FROM A FLAT TO A DEEP UNDERSTANDING
MFA Thesis
My thesis work investigates ways of pushing the depth of the page in book design. This exploration is in response to the paradigm shift from physical to digital books that is occurring. In the near future, less physical books will be published and the role of the book designer will include the development of new strategies to enhance the book— both physical and digital.Viewing the page as a stage that extends past the normal borders of the x and y axis is one way of enhancing the reader’s interaction between page, text and meaning. This thesis follows the formal methodological model, which emphasizes the creation of new visual languages and radically new modes of working. My processes are deeply rooted in a combination of physical and digital making and the conversation that is created from this intersection.
