HORIZONTAL & VERTICAL DIVISIONS
Thesis study
Building on the previous study, an “A” letterform was divided vertically and horizontally and suspended in space. This was to see how legibility was affected and what type of result would be produced. Combining the dissected pieces strongly evoked the feeling of place and space. It was as if the viewer could walk down hallways where a portion of the “A” was painted on each wall. At this point, these images/forms/rooms became characters with a life of their own as well as spaces to inhabit. They also became both narrative and place in the same way that a stage or set can also reveal that type of information.
