LETTERFORMS AS SPACE
Thesis study

If text could evoke a feeling of space and place when dissected (as in the previous study), I wondered how dimensional type could become a room/space. In earlier studies, the dimensional type existed in a room/space. What would it be like if the letter itself became the room? The “H” became its own interior space that the viewer could seemingly climb into through the exterior wall. Typography isn’t usually thought of having an interior. In reading, it’s the exterior of a letterform that is understood and we don’t think of it as a three-dimensional object.
