A COMBINATION OF PROCESSES
Thesis study
Printouts of the earlier stages were placed on physical corners in a room. Text was then projected on those printouts which produced a mixture of two- and three-dimensional space. The relationship between text and image was more dynamic than text placed on top of image in the computer. Alain Robbe-Grillet, a Nouvelle Roman author in the 1950s had a unique writing style because of his use of non-traditional characters. The objects that are described in painstaking detail become the characters, and the reader must piece together the narrative. His text,
The Dressmakers Dummy, was a good marriage with the non-traditional characters I created. The conversation between image and type was essentially a conversation between two characters. Image is used as more than an illustration or decoration of the text.
