DEATH OF THE AUTHOR
book design
Although reading appears to be a seamless process where a reader derives meaning from the words of an author, reading in fact is a complex neurological process where the brain completes many functions very quickly. This typographic interpretation of Roland Barthe’s text, Death of the Author illustrates how active a reader’s brain is during the process of reading a text. Through symbols I have diagrammed and recorded one reader’s brain functions during reading— noting the language translations, image recalls, questions, recapitulations, memory recalls, etc that occur during the reading/deciphering of this text. These are just a few of the many complex actions the brain performs during reading.
